A Tale of Two Halves for Mens 2s
Sonning Men’s 2’s v Marlow 1’s 17th October 2009-10-19
This week saw Chris Goodman’s men host top of the table Marlow at fortress Sonning.
With Players still missing due to injury including Tufty “Utility” Sellwood, the 2’s would be tested this week. Hopefully his world renowned skill for motivation and positive input would reach us from the side lines.
Also missing “Thiiimee” who inspired by autumn watch has to abandoned us and joined the rutting season.
Sonning started well in the first half, with a disciplined approach with Neil Thompson putting in the tough miles in the midfield. The defensive union caressed the ball around the back at will. Goodman’s debut at centre back involved taking caring passes to the extreme, a new “softly softly pass” technique was born.
Sonning manufactured several opportunity’s including several short corners thanks to “pink is in” Greenaway and good work from mark “cutting the carbon footprint” eighteen and his walk to the club campaign. These two were given great service from Paul “Air” Harris with his mixture of high altitude bombing and daisy cutters (congrats Paul on your latest trainer deal).
Marlow were not without chances, but thanks to Lawrence “gurders” west’s marshalling of the defensive unit, half chances were all Marlow could muster.
The second half started in the same vein as the first, with both sides probing for the break through. Marlow were rewarded for their pressure enticing Matt Poulton into a rash challenge (last seen in kill bill) for this poults was sin binned. Poults attempted to discuss pro’s of reverse blade samurai, this just earned him an extra 5mins of contemplation. On a plus note he achieved “dikiari dauyo” A difficult finishing manouver.
Sonning were now up against it and the powerplay eventually brought Marlow a goal.
Recent left back discovery “Laurie Clark” manned up once too often and was carried off after putting his body on the line trying to prevent the second goal. Tony stepped into left back with an “edgy” defensive style that even the best photo shoot could not capture.
Sonning did rally with with Dougi Clayton doing the work of two and creating several good build ups.
Sonning were back to ten after cheesman’s tackling scored low with the judges.
Unfortunately West’s Braveheart chants could not prevent a tired 2’s conceding a third. He rightly earned “Man of the match” for a clutch of saves and being defensive union spokesman.
Final Score: Sonning 0 Marlow 3
