A tough day at the (Aylesbury) office
Aylesbury v Sonning 2s (Away)
Saturday 30th January
3 - 0
We left Sonning to face the league leaders with one player missing, as Amy had managed to get the meet time wrong. After a few frantic phone calls between defender and captain, she eventually managed to arrive at the venue in Aylesbury but unfortunately, after the match had already started - we had already decided that although we don’t always award a Muff of the Day, there were no other contenders - Amy it would be!!!
As the first half started, we quickly became aware of how strong the Aylesbury forwards were. They didn’t have too many chances but they put their first chance away with a fantastic strike into the bottom right hand corner of the goal. 0 -1 and all to play for. Then the same attacking player struck again - hard, fast shot into the far corner. 2 - 0 and we were getting concerned.
In the second half we tried to mark their forwards more tightly and succeeded until the last five minutes - that same Aylesbury player (note to self, must sign her up!) completed her hat trick with another fantastic strike! 3 - 0 and no way back for the Sonning team.
Overall, we had some nice attacking play but didn’t quite make that final link in their D against a strong defence. Aylesbury had a strong and skillful team and deserved their win.
