Ladies 2s rediscover their winning ways . . .
Sonning 2s v Maidenhead 3s
Saturday 6th February
2 - 0
It was a beautiful sunny day - perfect hockey weather. Sonning were raring to go following the previous weeks defeat. It was going to be busy weekend of hockey with two matches in two days, but we were determined to start with a win.
Sonning started strongly, keeping possession well and using their silky skills all over the pitch. There were lots of lovely passing moves and as a result dominated the possession in the first half. Then came the break through - Claire Moore passed to AJ in the D and AJ duly obliged with a lovely finish: 1 - 0 Sonning. Sonning kept ht epressure on and were soon rewarded with a second goal: a shot from Emma was massively deflected into the corner of the goal, past the stranded keeper . . . 2 - 0 Sonning.
Following the half time break, Sonning kept the pressure on and continued to dominate. Passing was slick and there were some lovely 1 - 2’s leading to a number of chances. However, without being able to convert again we were stuck at 2 - 0. Maidenhead had some strong breaks but the mighty defence of Helen, Beth, Amy and Anna meant that Maidenhead couldn’t break through and poor Rose was left twiddling her thumbs for the rest of the second half!
The final result was 2 - 0 and we were fired up for the cup game the following day. Bring on Kettering!!
