A game of two halves but a win for Valentines Day!!!
Oxford Hawks v Sonning 2
Saturday 13th February
1 - 2
It was a rather unsociable early start and there was a definite winter chill in the air!
We arrived good time but the umpires were anxious to get the game started and our warm up felt rushes and cut short for some reason. However, Sonning were fired up in the search for another win and had a storming first half with some excellent team hockey.
Sonning scored first after the ball was saved by Rose, who kicked the ball towards Vicki. Vicki passed the ball down the line to Renee who ran across, picking the ball up on her reverse stick beating the defence as she went. Renee then passed the ball to helen on the P spot who hammered the ball into the back of the net. 1 - 0 and all looking good for a win. Sonning’s second goal came quickly quickly after the first and involved the whole team who were playing as a unit and moving the ball quickly around the pitch, with the last touch falling to Claire McEwen to finish the move off.
Sonning started the second half well but then relaxed a little and Oxford hawks started to play with more purpose and begun to put our defence under pressure. Then in the last few minutes, they were awarded a short corner, which they converted making the score 2 - 1. The last few minutes were a bit tight with Oxford Hawks pushing forward for the point and a 1 on 1 between the Hawks forward and GK Rose resulted in a great save. Sonning managed to hold on until the final whistle to grab the 3 points. Final score: 2 - 1 to Sonning.
